The Final Report
must be submitted to the NES Challenge website. The report will be scored
on content, appearance, and spelling! Please write in full sentences and be
sure you have checked your spelling. The NES Challenge provides a tool for formatting the report. This tool is optional,
but you are welcome to use it.
The Final Report
must contain the following elements:
Abstract (5
points): Write one paragraph explaining the main points of the report.
Introduction
(20 points): Give the background on what the project is about. Here are
some guiding questions to answer in the Background section:
- What is the historical
background for your project?
- How does
your project relate to NASA's return to the Moon?
Description
of Project (30 points): Describe your project in detail. Here are some
guiding questions for the Description section:
- What question
were you trying to answer?
- Why is this
question important?
- How did
you answer the question?
- How did
you set up your project?
- What materials
and equipment were used?
Pictures of your
project would be good in this section.
Data (20 points):
Describe the measurements that you made and any other data you may have used.
Here are some guiding questions for the Data section.
- What measurements
did you make, and exactly how did you make them?
- What did
you do with your measurements once you had them?
- Are the
measurements represented in metric units?
- How do the
measurements help answer the question you were asking?
Tables, charts
and graphs may help you explain your measurements.
Conclusions
(20 points): Draw conclusions from your work. Here are some guiding questions
for the Conclusions section:
- What has been
learned from the project?
- Did your
project make you ask more questions?
- What was
the most difficult part of your project?
- What would
you do differently if you had to do your project again?
References
(5 points): List all references used in the project. A judge should be
able to find the reference from the information given. See Sample References.
Virtual Teaching and Inspiration Environment (VTIE)
VTIE is a tool for formatting your Final
Report. VTIE is on the web. You fill
out forms that correspond to the sections listed above (i.e., Abstract,
Introduction, Project Description, Analysis, Conclusions and References).
You are also able to include images. When you have finished putting in
the text, VTIE will format the report into a PDF file that is good for printing
and uploading to the NES Challenge. If you would like to use this tool,
contact the NES Challenge Coordinator, Susan Hoban.
